United's London Heathrow Station Honored as
"Ground
Handler of the Year"
CHICAGO, IL - JUNE 27, 2003 - For the second consecutive
year, United (OTC BB: UALAQ.OB) has been named "Ground Handler
of the Year" at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) by the British Airport
Authority. The award commends United's work on behalf of the customer
air carriers it serves at LHR, through contracts managed by United Services,
a business within United.
Mick Temple, managing director of Heathrow Airport Ltd., presented
the award during the airport authority's monthly community briefing
on Monday, June 23, 2003. Three specific areas of United's achievement
were noted during the presentation.
- United's in-house safety programs-RISE (ramp services), PLANESAFE
(customer services), and CARGO SAFETY NET (cargo services)
- United's community involvement and spirit in serving on the Airport
Operators Committee and the Airport Users Committee, among others
- United's benchmark for performance and service
The British Airport Authority required all nominees for the award to
make a presentation at the event. United was represented by Paul Montgomery,
manager-contract services; Richard Miller, manager-ramp operations;
and Ray McGhie, United's general manager at London Heathrow.
"Being honored with this award for a second year in a row is a
real tribute to our outstanding employees at LHR, who serve our customers
to the highest standards of our industry," says McGhie. "United
continues to raise the bar for service excellence at this vital station."
London Heathrow is the world's busiest international airport and second-busiest
cargo port. More than 90 airlines are operated at Heathrow, which has
four terminals (with a fifth under construction) and serves more than
63 million travelers annually.
